Kurdish Textile Museum is located in one of the elegant houses inside the ancient Citadel of Arbela and the house was rebuilt from 1939 to 1942, by one of the wealthy merchants of Erbil Mr. Hashim Debagh.
This museum of Kurdish weaving offers a glimpse of beauty and intricacy of this handcrafted art, as well as insight into the cultural heritage of the Kurdish people.
It includes numerous woven arts from both settled and nomadic tribes in the Erbil city region. Here the art of Kurdish weavings is such an integral part of life that it reflects their social situations, unique cultural influences and their very lifestyle. This has resulted in this craft having a rich tradition, peculiar to Kurdish people and therefore, plays an extremely important role in ethnological research.
